Six AP Top 25 teams can testify what a pain in the butt road games are—all were upset during college football’s 13th week of play, and 2 of the 6 will be facing off in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game this week.

The six teams with targets on their back included 7th-ranked Georgia Tech, 15th-ranked Clemson, 8th-ranked Pittsburgh, 11th-ranked Oklahoma State, 20th-ranked Mississippi and 23rd-ranked North Carolina. All but Pittsburgh were not just on-the-road, but also tackling an in-state rival.

Georgia (7-5) beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (10-2), 30-24, as the Bulldogs’ Washaun Ealey rushed 20 times for 183 yards (9.15 yards per carry) and Caleb King rushed 18 times for 166 yards (9.22 ypc)—349 yards between them. Ealey and King sound like a comedy team but the Georgia Tech players were too busy sucking Louisiana pond water to laugh.

Georgia and its coach Mark Richt have taken their lumps this

You can excuse the good people of Ruston, Louisiana if they feel that any game played by their Louisiana Tech Bulldogs is not over until the Bulldogs come from behind to win. That would be because the Bulldogs logged their 7th come-from-behind victory of the season in the Independence Bowl Saturday (12-28-08), beating Northern Illinois 17-10.

The win was sweet for Derek Dooley as it represented his first bowl victory as a head coach. Dooley is none other than a former protégé of Alabama head coach Nick Saban and son of the legendary Georgia coach and athletic director Vince Dooley. Young Dooley used his special teams, defense and a running game to turn back Northern Illinois.

Senior defensive back Weldon Brown proved to be the Bulldogs big stopper. Brown stopped one Husky scoring threat with a shoestring tackle to set up a 4th down, then batted down the ensuing pass. He also recovered a fumbled punt to

Coaches Lead Teams to Greatness

The athletic department in any university is important. Prestigious universities invest so much to scout for potential athletes that will bring victory to their teams. Some even observed athletes of different high schools to look for talented athletes.

However, the discovery of university athletes does not solely rely on scouts. Most successful athletes have to prepare and prove themselves worthy to be part of the team they want to join. They have to prepare for tryouts in order to get the attention of their seniors and coaches.

The success of the athletic teams is not in the hands of the athletes alone. The coaches play a big role in the success and failure of the team. Many schools fire their coaches because of bad team standings. There are also those who name their stadiums and fields after the coaches as a sign of gratitude.

Sports recognize the coaches at large. When the West Virginia Mountaineers received the

Back-to-Back Winning Seasons and Bowl Appearances Say Michigan State Is Back

Copyright © 2009 Ed Bagley

When Mark Dantonio became the new Michigan State University football coach two years ago, he came to the East Lansing Campus with a pedigree that shouted success is on the way. He has not disappointed the Spartan faithful.

Michigan State had not done diddly-squat since its 1999 team went 10-2, whipped Florida in the Citrus Bowl, led the Big Ten in total defense, and ranked 7th in the final polls. Times have changed in East Lansing. If diddly-squat shows up since Dantonio has arrived, he is in for a fight.

Here is what Dantonio has accomplished since his debut 55-18 victory against UAB (the University of Alabama at Birmingham):

Turn a losing program into a winning one by going 7-5 in his first regular season, and getting Michigan State its first bowl appearance in 4 years. Despite being a 5-point underdog to No. 14-ranked Boston College in the Champs Sports Bowl, the Spartans only lost by a field goal,

The Razorbacks undoubtedly went into the game against the Mississippi Bulldogs with every intention of winning. The Bulldogs, however, decided something different as they came out on the floor kicking butt and taking no names. The Bulldogs scored a school record 16 3-pointers and left the Razorbacks wondering what happened as the Bulldogs defeated the Razorbacks 86-77. The Razorbacks gave it a shot but when the final clock buzzed, the victory went to the Bulldogs.

On the active roster in the game were sophomore Marcus Britt (12) from Madison Arkansas, freshman Andre Clark (44) from North Little Rock Arkansas, freshman Rotnei Clark (15) from Verdigris Oklahoma, junior Stephen Cox (25) from Jonesboro Arkansas, freshman Courtney Fortson (4) from Montgomery Alabama, freshman Jason Henry (1) from West Memphis Arkansas, freshman Nick Mason (2) from Jonesboro Arkansas, senior Marcus Monk (10) from Lepanto Arkansas, freshman Brandon Moore (11) from New Orleans

Florida Gators Tickets – Underclassmen Upgrade the Talent Pool

Underclassmen always impact the NFL Draft, and this time around we may see a record number of “non-senior” entrants into the 2009 event. Positions including quarter back, running back, wide receiver, defensive line and corner back; would be filled up mostly by underclassmen talent.

Most of these players are still busy representing their respective schools, but it wont be very long before we see them competing in the NFL. Underclassmen have been given a 15th January deadline to take a call on whether they would be eligible for NFL or not.

Quarterbacks like Matt Stafford, playing for the Georgia Bulldogs is one of the favorite quarter backs in the run for the NFL cap. Many pros predict that he would be the first quarter back to be selected if he enters the draft. Mark Sanchez playing for the USC is the second favorite but he has still not made his stand clear on entering the draft. Sam Bradford playing for Oklahoma has impeccable accuracy and is
