The first two rounds of the 2008 NCAA College Basketball Tournament underscored just how far parity has come in the men’s competition as at least 1 major upset occurred every 6 games (8 major upsets and 3 minor upsets in 48 games). The major upsets included:

#10 Seed Davidson Knocks Off #2 Seed Georgetown 74-70

Georgetown breezed past UMBC 66-47 before running into this year’s new media darling, Davidson, which upended #7 Gonzaga in Round 1, 82-76, behind 8-of-10 3-pointers by Wildcat guard Stephen Curry who finished with 30 points in the second half and 40 total.

Curry returned where he left off against Georgetown, throwing down 30 points (25 in the second half) and adding 5 assists, 3 steals, 3 rebounds and NO turnovers. Curry is the son of Dell Curry, a former Virginia Tech All-American and NBA star, proving that your gene pool does count.

Week Five NCAA Football Matchup Extravaganza

Georgia (-4) over LSU- The Tigers have struggled all season against tougher competition. LSU is unexpectedly last in the SEC at offense at 310.0 yards per game and needed special teams touchdown against Miss. State last week to assure victory. The Tigers still have a shot at winning because of their defense, which has allowed only 61 points. Georgia’s offense has already totaled 52 and41 points in games this season and A.J. Green leads the SEC in receiving with 428 yards. Georgia has been mediocre on defense, and the question of the game will be whether LSU can shake take advantage of offensive opportunities. I am not so sure they can, and with the game in Athens, I will give a slight edge to the Bulldogs. Georgia 24-21

USC (+6) over Cal- Cal’s looking to bounce back at home, but USC should be too stern of a test to overcome. Freshman QB Matt Barkley is quickly improving for the Trojans and they have

Best Dogs For Boar Hunting

When asking a wild boar hunter the best breed of dog for the job, opinions differ. Many characteristics must combine to make a good wild pig dog, but popular breeds are often the cur, feist, pit bull, or American bulldog. Regardless of the breed, the best dog for the job is one that has great stamina for tracking these pigs.

While boars were introduced to the country when settlers brought their domesticated pigs and allowed them to run loose. Because pigs are of high intelligence, they were able to adapt and thrive and breed. It wasn’t long before their numbers had increased exponentially and a dog was needed to control the population. The wild boars were not only known for being aggressive towards people they encountered, but they also ruin local vegetation and can harm small species in the area.

There are some things to know before setting out on a wild boar hunt; primarily that the worst time to hunt these animals is in Decemeber when

2010 Mississippi State College Football Predictions

The Mississippi State Bulldogs enter their second season under the direction of Dan Mullen looking to build on a 5-7 season a year ago.  While an SEC West title is out of the picture, 14 starters return for a team looking to be invited to a bowl game for only the second time since 2000.  Mullen has brought his spread attack to Starkville and dividends were paid immediately with impressive offensive numbers.  The Dogs come into the 2010 season with momentum after defeating rival Ole Miss in the season finale last year.  Mississippi State is a +5000 long shot to win the SEC title.

Live odds are available all season long at Betfirms.  Our top handicappers provide expert college football picks to help you build a bankroll and beat the books!

Sylvester Croom was ousted as head coach prior to last season mainly because the offense never matched the performance of the defensive units he put on the field.  This will no longer be an issue if 2009 is

College Football – in Just Two Years Nick Saban Has the Crimson Tide No. 1 in the Nation

Goodbye Texas. Hello Alabama. It is now the Crimson Tide that have become the No. 1 coveted target in the nation for big-time college football programs in America.

The Texas Longhorns, who were No. 1, took on their 4th top-ranked team in consecutive weeks and came up short on the road Saturday (11-1-08) in Lubbock to No. 6 Texas Tech 39-33 on a scoring play that never should have happened with 1 second left.

In a Texas-style shootout, the Longhorns trailed 19-0 and rallied to take a 33-32 lead on Vondrell McGee’s 4-yard touchdown run with only 1:29 to play. That gave just a little too much time left for the Red Raiders’ Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree, two gifted athletes on a mission few others would dare to take.

With virtually no time left and 28 yards from pay dirt, Harrell found himself surrounded by nasty Longhorns and out of time with Crabtree in double coverage and no room to even

2010 SEC Football Predictions

2010 SEC Football Predictions

The SEC seems to have a strangle hold on the BCS National Championship, as the conference has won the past four BCS titles and five of the past six. The Alabama Crimson Tide took down the 2008 National Champion Florida Gators 32-13 in the SEC Championship game, followed up by a great performance in the National title game against Texas, wehre they beat up on the Longhorns 37-21.

You can’t question the talent that the entire SEC brings to the table, as 49 players were selected in the 2010 NFL draft. What makes the SEC so good is so many teams don’t have to rebuild, they just have to reload with younger talent. Not to say other schools don’t reload just as good, but when you look at the conference as a whole, there really isn’t anything that compares right now.

When you begin to look at the college football odds for the 2010 season, I believe there are seven teams in this conference that could end up playing for the National Championship next season.

West Virginia V. Missouri: Good for College Football

There is still a week left in both the seasons of Missouri and West Virginia and in that week Missouri has to beat a strong Oklahoma team and West Virginia has to avoid looking past Pitt. But if both teams win on Saturday they will finish #1 & #2 in the polls and the match-up for the national title would be good for college football much to the dismay of fans of others schools like Ohio State, et al who are bemoaning how they should be in the national title game even after losses to unranked opponents throughout the season and other pitfalls.

Why would WVU facing Mizzou be good? Because maybe, just maybe, it will get some of the people holding up an actual playoff system for the national title off the dime.

Every year I hear bitching and moaning from teams out of the national title hunt complaining about how they should be considered. But this year the pitch is fevered, fed by the vast number of discontented fans of other

Hog Hunting Dogs – How To Find The Best Ones

Hunting of wild boar or wild hog is not permitted all over the United States. It is confined to just 15 states. The popular states are Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Alabama, Ohio, Florida, Hawaii, Oklahama and California. Each state has its own set of hunting laws. A satisfying hunting trip demands familiarity with all of them. If the hunter decides to take the services of an outfitter complete with guides and hog hunting dogs, some amount has to be shelled out as license fees.

The wild boar is found in regions which have dense thickets. Big in size, it is known to be very alert and ferocious. Also, the animal senses danger from the whole group stalking it and so is cautious enough to keep itself well hidden. Therefore, the hog hunting dogs have to be exceptionally strong to be able to pin down such a wild creature!

Like all other forms of game, there is a season set aside for hunting the wild

NCAA Football Tickets – Top Five Games of Week Five

College football fans have plenty to be excited about in Week Five, as the schedules are getting tougher and the conference rivals are starting to battle. NCAA football tickets for any one of these games would be a great idea, so make sure you you’re either at one of these games, or you have them all TiVo’d.

1. Georgia – Alabama: Saturday night you get the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs facing off against the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide. Considering the fact that UCS lost to Oregon State this week, there’s a distinct possibility that both of these teams could move up if they win. For Georgia, a No. 1 spot isn’t out of the question. Alabama might sneak into the top five. The game’s going down at Georgia’s Sanford Stadium, so we hope you have your Georgia Bulldogs football tickets. Most of the experts say that Georgia has the clear edge because they’re at home, but last year Georgia only won the game 26-23. We expect a close one.

2. Ohio
